In the late 1980s and early ’90s, before his fall from the coconut tree, but after the (arguable) decline of the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards released a spate of hot albums with and without his band the X-Pensive Winos. This ’91 outing captures a particularly crisp show, and was released as an answer and antidote to the badly-recorded live X-Pensive Winos bootlegs that Richards was displeased to discover. Richards’ guitar-playing is in fine form, and his endearingly laconic vocals don’t disappoint, but the highlight of the album is a take of the old Stones chestnut “Time is on My Side,” rendered passionately by vocalist Sarah Dash, a former Patti LaBelle backing singer.
