Description
Apart from the fabulous picture of Moz in a bathtub on the cover, 2011’s The Very Best of Morrissey doesn’t offer up much that’s out of the ordinary: a solo version of his 1994 Siouxsie Sioux duet “Interlude,” and a couple of U.S. mixes, but not even the bonus DVD of 12 promo videos veers away from the expected. Sure, there are a few left turns to give the illusion that this is something more than a recycled hits collection — “Break Up the Family” and “Such a Little Thing Makes Such a Big Difference” pop up — but this offers the standard parade of “The Last of the Famous International Playboys,” “Glamorous Glue,” “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get,” “Interesting Drug,” “Everyday Is Like Sunday,” “Suedehead,” and “Tomorrow,” all still sounding great as ever, all present multiple times in any Morrissey fan’s collection already. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
