Longstanding U.K. dance-pop outfit Saint Etienne return with Words and Music, their first album since the muted mellowness of 2005’s Tales from Turnpike House. The record sees the group continue work with longtime producer Ian Catt as well as collaborate on tracks with new friends Richard X and Xenomania’s Tim Powell and Nick Coler. Heavy on deep club beats and glittery indie songwriting, Bob Stanley says the album is centered around the concept of “how music affects your life. How it defines the way you see the world as a child, how it can get you through bad times in unexpected ways, and how songs you’ve known all your life can suddenly develop a new attachment, and hurt every time you hear them.” ~ Fred Thomas
